President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the successful revival of the Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed the loading of petroleum products on November 26, 2024.
In his remarks, President Tinubu recognized the role of former President Muhammadu Buhari in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries and expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for financing the crucial project.
The President also commended Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, for his leadership and dedication in overcoming various challenges to reach this significant milestone.
Building on this success, President Tinubu has directed NNPCL to fast-track plans to reactivate the second Port Harcourt Refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries. These initiatives are expected to increase domestic refining capacity, support private refineries, and enhance Nigeria’s position as a major energy hub.
In addition to the refinery developments, the President highlighted that his administration will place a strong emphasis on the gas sector. He reiterated his commitment to resolving the long-standing issue of Nigeria being a major crude oil producer yet struggling with local refining capabilities.
President Tinubu called for integrity, accountability, and dedication in the rebuilding of the nation’s infrastructure, urging those in power to remain focused on their responsibilities.
Reaffirming his Renewed Hope Agenda, the President pledged to prioritize energy sufficiency, security, and enhanced export capacity to drive economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
