Tinubu Approves Northern Oil Project

President Bola Tinubu has approved the necessary licences for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, a major oil exploration venture located between Bauchi and Gombe states.

The move is expected to boost crude oil output by reopening oil production sites and supporting new developments across the country.

The announcement was made during the launch of the construction work for the permanent site of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, revealed that the approvals cover all critical regulatory requirements needed for the Kolmani project to move forward.

The Kolmani oil field, situated at the border of Bauchi and Gombe, was first opened in November 2022, marking the beginning of oil exploration in Northern Nigeria.

The government now aims to pick up where things left off, with new drilling plans underway and other support projects like the Ajaokuta-Kano gas pipeline also in focus.

According to Lokpobiri, the Federal Government is working to make use of all available oil platforms to raise production levels and support the country’s economy.

He noted that the Kolmani approvals form part of wider efforts to tap into Nigeria’s energy resources in ways that will create more jobs, attract investment, and improve national income.

The minister also praised Bauchi State’s cooperation, especially with the setting up of the new oil and gas academy, which is expected to provide skill training for local workers.

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is also being counted on to support this goal by building manpower and preparing the industry for the future.
