Tinubu Appoints Rotimi Oyedepo as Director of Public Prosecutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the transfer of Mr. Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, SAN, from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Civil Service, where he will serve as the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Federal Ministry of Justice.

A letter dated December 23 and signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission noted that Oyedepo’s appointment was made in the public interest.

As the new DPP, Mr. Oyedepo will succeed Mr. Abubakar Babadoko, who will reach the mandatory retirement period of eight years as a director on December 31, 2025.

Mr. Oyedepo graduated with a Law degree from the University of Ilorin in 2007 and attended the Law School in 2008. Prior to this appointment, he had an extensive career at the EFCC, where he worked for over 15 years, focusing on the prosecution of complex economic and financial crimes. He also held the position of Head of the Monitoring Unit.

In addition to his roles, he was part of the legal team representing the Federal Government in the significant case of Process and Industrial Development vs. The Federal Republic of Nigeria, commonly known as the P&ID case.

Mr. Oyedepo was recognized as the EFCC Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and was awarded the title of Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.
