Thunder strike kills POS operator, one other

On Tuesday, a devastating thunderstorm hit the Issele-Azagba community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

One of the victims was a Point of Service (POS) operator and the father of a one-year-old baby girl. The identity of the second victim has not been disclosed.

A third individual, known only as Sunday, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Asaba.

The incident occurred around 2 pm while a group of about 13 youths were playing football at the Osemeke Primary School field. A sudden lightning bolt and thunder strike struck the players and their referee, leading to the immediate deaths of two participants.

The state police command reported on Wednesday that the incident had not been officially reported at any police station. According to state police public relations officer SP Bright Edafe, “The matter was not reported in the station, so I can’t confirm the story or the number of casualties.
