The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has announced the release of N6.452 billion to public tertiary institutions under its 2026 intervention cycle.
Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, disclosed this at a stakeholders’ workshop with heads of beneficiary institutions, where guidelines for the 2026 disbursement were presented and allocation letters issued.
According to Echono, each university will receive N2.525 billion, while polytechnics will get N1.871 billion each and colleges of education N2.056 billion respectively. He said the direct disbursement represents about 90.75 per cent of the total funds, covering both annual and special interventions.
He explained that the funds are meant to improve critical infrastructure, strengthen academic programmes, boost research and innovation, and support the overall transformation of Nigeria’s tertiary education system. He added that the intervention would also enhance access to global academic resources and integrate the TERAS platform into the National Research and Education Network.
Echono said TETFund would continue investing in laboratories, research centres, ICT development, security infrastructure and student exposure programmes, while urging institutions to fully utilise their allocations. He warned that future funding would depend on performance and proper use of existing funds, stressing that institutions with unspent allocations would not receive additional support.
