Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to intervene on his behalf by urging the Federal Government to remove his name from its wanted list.
Igboho also pleaded with the monarch to help secure the lifting of the embargo placed on his bank accounts by the government.
The activist made the appeal on Saturday during a visit to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
In July 2021, the Department of State Services (DSS) declared Igboho wanted after a raid on his Ibadan residence uncovered arms and ammunition. He fled Nigeria afterward and has since been residing in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
During the palace visit, Igboho tendered an apology to the Ooni for his past verbal attacks on the monarch, saying he regretted his actions.
Speaking in Yoruba, he said:
“I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I have done to you. You are my father and you cannot cast me away. Your warm reception today shows me you have forgiven me. I am here to further seek your help. I am still on the Federal Government’s wanted list and I want you to help clear my name. Also, my accounts are frozen, and I want the embargo lifted.”
He explained that the Olowo of Owo had advised him to seek audience with the Ooni, describing the Ife monarch as the “overall authority.”
Igboho, who has been at the forefront of agitations for a Yoruba Nation, expressed optimism that the Ooni’s influence could pave the way for reconciliation with the Federal Government.
