Tanker Fire in Enugu Kills Many, Injures Several

A tragic fuel tanker explosion on Saturday morning claimed several lives and left many injured along the Ugwu Onyama Federal Highway in Enugu State.

The incident, which occurred on January 25, 2025, caused chaos and severe damage in the area.

The disaster began when a petrol tanker overturned on the hilly road, spilling its contents. The fuel ignited, setting nearby vehicles ablaze and trapping many road users.

Witnesses reported that the fire spread quickly, leaving scores of victims burned beyond recognition.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene to transport the injured to nearby hospitals and moved the deceased to morgues.

The exact number of casualties remains unclear, but reports indicate that over ten people, including children, lost their lives.

The highway has since been rendered impassable, causing significant disruptions to traffic.

This tragedy comes just a week after a similar fuel tanker explosion in Niger State, which killed at least 98 people and injured many others, Sahara Reporters reports.

The frequency of such incidents has raised concerns about road safety and fuel transportation practices in Nigeria.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement regarding the Enugu explosion, and investigations are ongoing.
