The Taliban government in Afghanistan has swapped US detainees for an Afghanistan prisoner.

AGP reports that this was announced on Tuesday following the deal that was brokered by Qatar.

The Afghan foreign ministry said in a statement, “An Afghan fighter, Khan Mohammad, imprisoned in America has been released in exchange for American citizens and returned to the country,”

The statement added that Mohammad had been serving a life sentence after being arrested “almost two decades ago”.
