Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a courtesy visit to South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa. He presented the latest book he co-authored titled “Democracy Works: Rewiring Politics to Africa’s Advantage”, to the South African leader. President Ramaphosa thanked the former President for working hard and still having the energy to write and contribute to current debates about the development of Africa. The two leaders also used the opportunity to reflect on recent events in South Africa which saw more than four hundred Nigerians voluntarily evacuated from the country. We should stop blame game on banditry – Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday met with the Hausa – Fulani leaders in Southwest, Kogi and Kawara States in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, over insecurity and banditry in the region. He called on Nigerians to stop the culture of “passing blame” and think of a lasting solution to the menace. Obasanjo said the solutions to the nation’s security challenges should not be left to one person to address, adding that it is not what one man can tackle alone. According to him the solutions can come through collective efforts and not through “passing of blame” here or there.
State of the nation: Obasanjo is not neutral, says Presidency
Despite his letter on the state of the nation, the Presidency on Friday said ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo is not neutral. It said since Obasanjo’s has a political position, his opinion cannot be taken as the gospel truth any longer. It said political Fulani herdsmen were on rampage to de-market the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. He said Nigeria will not break because “it is very solid, it will remain solid.” The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr. Femi Adesina, who faulted Obasanjo in an interview with THE CREST online newspaper, said Buhari’s administration is not failing.

The mouthpiece of Northern Nigeria, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has reacted to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. The Northern socio-cultural organization said it was still studying the letter and will speak on it soon. ACF, in a one-sentence statement sent to The Nation by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, did not give further details.
