Supreme Court Rejects Trump’s Bid to Delay Sentencing

The Supreme Court has turned down President-elect Donald Trump’s attempt to postpone his sentencing in a criminal case involving hush-money payments.

Trump, convicted of falsifying records to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, sought the intervention of the nation’s highest court to halt the proceedings.

His sentencing remains scheduled for January 10, 2025, after a New York appeals court rejected his earlier request for a delay.

In a narrow 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court denied Trump’s appeal. Justices John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett joined three liberal justices in the majority, while four conservative judges supported Trump’s request.

The case stems from Trump’s reimbursement of the hush money, which was falsely documented as legal expenses.

Justice Juan Merchan, presiding over the case, has previously stated that a jail sentence is not under consideration.

Trump criticized the case, describing it as politically motivated, and later posted his remarks on his social media platform, calling the legal battle part of ongoing efforts to target him.
