Super Eagles Soar to 26th in FIFA World Rankings After Stellar AFCON Performance

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have made a significant leap to the 26th position in the latest FIFA World Ranking, released on the football governing body’s website on Monday, marking an impressive 12-place jump.

The team ascended from 38th following a commendable performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they secured third place overall.

Under the leadership of coach Eric Chelle, the Eagles demonstrated remarkable consistency and resilience, winning six out of their seven matches in the tournament. Their sole defeat came in the semi-finals, where they were narrowly edged out by hosts Morocco in a tense penalty shootout.

Quick to rebound, the team clinched third place with a decisive 4-2 victory over Egypt in the playoff match, showcasing both their attacking prowess and mental fortitude.

The top 10 in the latest FIFA rankings remains dominated by football powerhouses, including Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany. Notably, the Super Eagles recorded the highest points gain in the ranking, earning an impressive +79.09 points.

On the continental front, the top 10 African nations include Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, Congo DR, and Mali.

Nigeria’s ascent in the rankings sends a powerful message that African teams are increasingly asserting their presence on the global stage, with the Super Eagles leading the way.
