Stop promoting pornography, NFVCB warns filmmakers

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has issued a warning to filmmakers to cease promoting and producing films that feature same-sex relationships and pornography, which contravene the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act and the NFVCB Act.

This warning follows reports of some filmmakers and content creators engaging in clandestine activities by producing, promoting, distributing, and streaming prohibited and unapproved content, particularly same-sex content, on social media and other online platforms.

In a statement issued by the NFVCB, it expressed regret that despite recent sustained engagements with filmmakers and industry guilds for a safer and healthier screen, some filmmakers continue to produce obscene and unlawful content.

The Board stated it is working with relevant security agencies to track down those involved and will ensure that those already identified face legal consequences.

While the Board will continue to engage filmmakers and content creators on the need for a safer and healthier screen, it reminded stakeholders, including conventional and digital platform owners, that it is illegal to distribute any film or video content, including skits and music videos, on any platform without NFVCB classification.
