By: Bayero Ade

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticized Labour Party candidate Peter Obi for visiting former military president General Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger State.

According to Politics Nigeria, Obi announced the visit on his X account, describing it as an opportunity to engage with the elder statesman on national issues. He praised Babangida’s insights as invaluable and extended New Year wishes to him.

Reacting on his X account, @YeleSowore, Sowore condemned the visit, accusing Obi of aligning with individuals he believes contributed to Nigeria’s challenges. Sowore referred to Babangida as a “Nigerian-ruiner,” claiming his regime left a legacy of damage to the nation.

“How can someone claim to be working to save Nigeria while paying homage to a figure like Ibrahim Babangida? Absolute jokers!” Sowore wrote.

The visit to Babangida followed Obi’s condolence visit to Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, mourning the loss of his mother and son.

Sowore’s criticism of Obi has become frequent, with the activist-politician often challenging the former Anambra State governor’s actions and political decisions.
