South-East PDP Stakeholders Warn Against Crisis Over National Secretary Position

…say Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains National Secretary

Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East have cautioned party members across other geopolitical zones against allowing emotions to cloud their judgment regarding the party’s leadership.

In a statement issued in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Thursday, the stakeholders reaffirmed that Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the substantive National Secretary of the party, citing the stay of execution as a legal basis for his position.

“The stay of execution has said it all. There is only one National Secretary, and it remains Senator Samuel Anyanwu,” the statement declared.

Signed by the Chairman of the South-East PDP Stakeholders Forum, Chief Maxwell Okoye, the statement attributed the internal turmoil within the party to political interests positioning for the 2027 elections.

The stakeholders commended PDP governors for their performance while urging them, along with the Board of Trustees (BoT), to safeguard the integrity of the National Secretary’s office.

“The battle for the control of the PDP ahead of 2027 has created confusion, uncharitable impressions, and insinuations that those fighting Anyanwu are agents of the ruling party in the country,” the leaders warned.

Expressing concern over the deepening crisis, they urged party chieftains to de-escalate tensions, warning that further turmoil could damage the party’s stability.

“Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been intimidated, harassed, insulted, abused, blackmailed, and even physically attacked for the soul of the party’s secretary seat by some political godfathers,” they said.

The statement underscored the importance of respecting the stay of execution, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring objectivity in resolving internal disputes.
