South African fast-rising artist Blulyt has dropped her debut single titled Shak’a Wena, produced by Teez Smart and distributed by Nigerian-based Pond Entertainment.
Now available across major streaming platforms, Shak’a Wena is a vibrant fusion of Afro-pop, Amapiano, and global pop sounds. The track is described by the label as “a sound that’s proudly African but globally relevant.”
In a statement released Friday, Blulyt explained the meaning behind the song, noting that Shak’a Wena, which loosely translates to “shake yourself,” is a call to self-expression and inner freedom.
“Shak’a Wena is about movement — physically, emotionally, spiritually. It’s that nudge to stop shrinking, to own your space, your vibe, your freedom,” she said.
Pond Entertainment, a new name in Nigeria’s music scene, is using this release to highlight its mission of promoting emerging African talents across the continent.
“This release is just the beginning. Blulyt is the future of cross-continental African sound. Shak’a Wena is her first step into the global spotlight and she’s ready,” a label representative stated.
With artists like Blulyt leading the way, the wave of genre-bending African music continues to break borders, combining tradition with global rhythms to reach new audiences worldwide.
