Sokoto Warns Residents Over Fleeing Bandits Amid Military Operations

By: Bayero Ade

The Sokoto State government has issued a warning to residents to remain vigilant as bandits fleeing military offensives in neighboring states seek refuge in calmer areas.

According to Politics Nigeria, Ahmed Usman, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, made the announcement on Wednesday, January 22. He explained that heightened military operations have disrupted the activities of bandits and terrorists, forcing some to relocate to other states, including Sokoto.

According to Usman, the state government is collaborating closely with military forces to ensure a thorough cleanup of criminal elements. He disclosed that many bandits have already been identified and neutralized, while several kidnapped victims have been rescued during recent operations.

“With increased pressure from security forces, some bandits are fleeing to other areas, often with their injured members,” Usman stated. “We are raising awareness to warn residents, as these criminals may disguise themselves and attempt to seek refuge in villages or receive treatment at local clinics.”

The government urged residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals to security agencies promptly, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.

If Usman Sokoto state governor is cooperating with the military personnel to eject stubborn bandits group from his vicinity, the onus is on other state governors to do likewise, so as to make the society livable.
