Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has approved the conversion of the May 2025 salary—paid in advance to mark the Eid-el-Adha celebration—into a soft loan to be repaid by civil servants in three instalments.
The move was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, who explained that the decision was taken to cushion the financial strain civil servants often face after festive periods.
Governor Aliyu acknowledged the economic challenges many workers were still experiencing due to expenses incurred during the Sallah celebration and described the measure as a necessary relief.
“I am aware that many of our workers are still facing financial challenges due to the expenses incurred during the Sallah festivities. This measure is intended to support them by easing immediate financial strain, allowing for repayment in three convenient monthly deductions,” the governor stated.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would bring meaningful support to workers and their families.
In addition, the governor directed the immediate payment of June 2025 salaries to all categories of workers, including state and local government staff, Local Government Education Authorities, and pensioners. Payment is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 30.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to improving the civil service for effective service delivery, Aliyu urged workers to reciprocate government efforts with increased dedication, punctuality, and discipline.
He also thanked the people of Sokoto State for their continued support and assured them of his dedication to delivering lasting dividends of democracy.
