Six lawmakers who were earlier suspended by the Benue State House of Assembly for opposing the removal of the state’s Chief Judge have been recalled.
Their return to the Assembly was confirmed on Tuesday during a plenary session after they submitted a formal appeal along with a letter apologising for their actions.
The lawmakers — Simon Gabo, Elias Audu, Solomon Gyila, William Ortyom, Blessed Onah, and Anyor Mato — were among thirteen members suspended in February 2025.
Their suspension followed a press briefing in Makurdi where they kicked against the removal of Justice Maurice Ikpambese, describing the move as unlawful and contrary to fair hearing and legislative independence.
The Speaker had announced a three-month suspension for the lawmakers, accusing them of acting in a way that could disrupt peace in the Assembly.
They were also told to refund money earlier released for a foreign trip they would no longer attend.
On Tuesday, the House accepted the apology of the six lawmakers and conducted a voice vote, which confirmed their reinstatement.
However, the other seven members remain suspended, pending the submission of their own appeals.
