A witness in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has informed the court that Simon Ekpa will soon be brought from Finland to face charges related to his support for Kanu’s Biafran agitation.
The witness, known as PW-AAA, a member of the State Security Service (SSS), made this statement on Friday during cross-examination in Kanu’s ongoing trial.
PW-AAA was involved in the arrest of Kanu in 2015 at a hotel in Lagos.
PW-AAA did not reveal his real name due to security concerns.
The witness was responding to questions from Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN.
Earlier in the trial, the prosecution presented additional evidence recovered from Kanu, including multiple electronic devices, such as laptops, modems, and phones, which were admitted as exhibits by the court.
Among the items recovered were two iPads, a MacBook, several modems, and various mobile phones, including a Samsung and Motorola.
The items also included an array of personal belongings, such as wristwatches, perfumes, and documents linked to IPOB.
The prosecution also presented a Nigerian passport and a British passport in Kanu’s name, along with other personal items.
During the cross-examination, PW-AAA confirmed that no weapons were found with Kanu or the woman arrested alongside him in Lagos.
He also stated that while the recovered items may not be inherently dangerous, the intentions behind their possession could raise concerns.
The witness clarified that his role was limited to making the arrest and collecting Kanu’s statement, rather than analyzing the seized items.
The case will continue with further cross-examinations scheduled for May 6, 7, and 8.
