Three men have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command following the death of a commercial sex worker at a brothel situated in the Cathedral area of Akure.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, after a disagreement between the deceased and a male client.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the woman reportedly told the client she was unable to continue with the engagement after suddenly feeling weak.
The man, angered by the situation, allegedly demanded a refund of N15,000. Attempts by the brothel’s manager and others to settle the dispute peacefully failed.
A short time later, the client reportedly returned with two companions. The trio allegedly tried to forcefully collect the money from the woman, prompting the manager to alert the authorities.
Police officers from ‘A’ Division arrived at the brothel and found the men still attempting to retrieve the cash.
At that point, the woman’s condition had worsened. She was taken first to a private hospital in the Lafe area, and then referred to the Police Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
Her remains have been taken to the State Specialist Hospital for autopsy.
Three suspects were arrested at the scene, while two others are still being sought by the police.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.
He reassured residents of the command’s dedication to justice and called on the public to remain calm and assist with any information that could aid the investigation.
