Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has written to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, raising concerns about how the Nigerian Police have managed the petitions she filed against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
In the letter dated May 19, 2025, and submitted through her lawyer, Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said the police have not acted fairly in the way they are treating the petitions.
She said there is a pattern showing more attention is given to the interests of Akpabio while her own reports have been left unattended.
The senator had submitted multiple petitions between March and April 2025.
One of them, filed on March 25, spoke of threats to her safety. Another, submitted on March 31, complained about the withdrawal of her police security.
The third, sent in on April 4, accused both Akpabio and Yahaya Bello of planning to kill her.
According to her lawyer, all three petitions were received by the police between March 26 and April 5, but no serious action has been taken since then.
No witnesses have been questioned, and no steps have been made to move the cases forward.
Her lawyer argued that this inaction may be because of Akpabio’s high political position.
He also mentioned that since Yahaya Bello is no longer in office, he should not be shielded from investigation.
At the same time, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team expressed worry over how quickly the police responded to a complaint made by Akpabio on April 3.
In that complaint, Akpabio accused her of making false claims and inciting trouble.
Soon after, she was invited by the police, gave a statement, and again presented her evidence and witnesses to support her case.
However, according to her lawyer, none of this evidence has been included in the file prepared in response to Akpabio’s petition.
The senator said this situation shows unfair treatment and a failure to give her a fair chance.
She said it goes against the principles in the 1999 Constitution and wants the Attorney General to look into the matter and ensure justice is done.
