Senate proposes College of Maritime Studies and Naval Architecture in Igbekebo

A bill for the establishment of College of Maritime Studies and Naval Architecture in Igbekebo, the headquarters of Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State has passed through the first reading at Senate plenary.

Starnews Nigeria reports that the Senate started the legislative process for the establishment of the school on Tuesday.

“College of Maritime Studies and Naval Architecture (Establishment) Bill, 2021 (SB. 673) by Senator Nicholas Tofowomo is read the First Time, the Senate president, Dr Ahamad Lawan PhD rules on Tuesday.”

The Sponsor of the bill, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, the Lawmaker representing Ondo South Senatorial District, said the bill is long overdue.

According to him, “the school would offer relevant courses in the marine industry and would help increase literacy not only in the riverine area of Ondo State but in Nigeria at large.”

Starnews Nigeria reports that this brings the total number of bills sponsored by Senator Nicholas Tofowomo – SNT to seven (7), two of which are at second reading while five others have been listed for second readings by May 2021.
