Senate Directs FG To Pay All Entitlements Due To Abiola, Kingibe

Following the posthumous award of GCFR conferred on late M. K. O Abiola by president Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate has yesterday asked the federal government to pay all the entitlements due to late Abiola and his running mate ,Babagana Kingibe with immediate effect.

The lawmakers were uninanimous in their decision yesterday at the plenary.

Recall that late Abiola and Kingibe were the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election which was annuled by the military administration of General Badamosi Babagida.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki commended the late Abiola for the sacrifices he paid, saying that the late business mogul deserves the honour and recognition.

His words:

”I am sure that all of us, in one way or the other, have had the opportunity to interact with the man (Abiola) and we felt that the country has not given him and his family the recognition that they truly deserve.

“Let us leave it that Chief MKO Abiola represented all of us,”  Saraki urged his colleagues.

The Senate supported the declaration of June 12 as a public holiday and insisted that May 29 remains the day for the inauguration of a president and newly elected officers.
