Seeking foreign help to fight insecurity in Nigerian is embarrassing, Reps

The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, stepped a motion seeking to invite foreign mercenaries to help fight insecurity in the country.

The motion was moved by a lawmaker, Ahmed Jaha, on the floor of the House during plenary on Wednesday.

Jaha said Nigeria needs to engage foreign mercenaries to help fight insecurity because efforts by local security agencies have not yielded much results.

He said insurgents have taken over farmlands and if the country does not fight back, it would be plagued by hunger in the nearest future.

Opposing the motion, Abbas Adigun said that it would be embarrassing for Nigeria to seek foreign aid.

Adigun advocated that security operatives need support to enhance their performance, adding that their welfare should be looked into.

The Minority Leader of the House, Kingsley Chinda, said one of the major problems the country faces is food insecurity.

He said, “When people are hungry we don’t expect them to be normal. Until something drastic is done nothing positive will come out of this discussion.”

The House resolved that the issue would be discussed further with the President and that appropriate funds should be channeled into rebuilding security facilities that were destroyed by insurgents.
