The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has revealed its plans to challenge the current government in the 2027 general elections.
This was made known during a zonal caucus meeting held in Nasarawa State, where leaders of the party discussed their strategy to increase membership and prepare for the coming polls.
The meeting, led by Abubakar Dogara, who is the North Central vice chairman of the party, focused on how the SDP is working across different levels — from national to ward levels — to grow its influence.
According to him, the party has been holding regular meetings and actively registering new members across the country.
This, he said, is part of their wider effort to position themselves as a strong alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other major parties.
Dogara noted that the demand for membership cards has been high, with some state offices running out of stock due to the number of people joining.
He mentioned that the party was putting in place measures to prevent its structure from being hijacked by outsiders, stating that they now intend to protect their image and stand firm as an independent political force.
He encouraged Nigerians to support the SDP and take part in the political process by registering as members from the ward level up to the national level, following the party’s guidelines.
He also pointed out that any government that fails to protect its people or meet their needs is not acting in line with what its constitution promises.
Also speaking at the event, the chairman of SDP in Benue State, Idoko Idoto, shared his belief that the party will take over the state and win across all levels in the next election.
He reminded participants that the SDP had governed Benue in the past and is now ready to return to power with candidates who are credible and ready to serve.
The party expressed hope that its growing membership and internal efforts will put it in a strong position to lead the country.
Leaders at the meeting said they are determined to move the SDP forward and make it a party of choice for many Nigerians by 2027.
