The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has accused most opposition parties of being inactive in challenging the activities of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria.
Gabam acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians but warned that the ruling party may face a strong backlash if it continues to suppress other political parties. He emphasised that such a response could arise if the APC’s ongoing ineptitude continues unchecked.
“They should learn from the PDP’s experience and be cautious,” Gabam said. “Since taking office, they have not contributed positively to the economy, merely experimenting without clear direction.”
Discussing the role of the opposition, Gabam highlighted the SDP’s commitment to holding the government accountable. He noted that, while Nigeria’s political environment is already chaotic, adding to it would not be wise.
“There is no party that has been more vocal in offering constructive criticism and solutions to the government than the SDP,” he said. “We communicate our concerns with a tone of respect, making it clear that things are not going well and urging for change.”
