Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been crowned the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year for the third time, after playing a pivotal role in the club’s historic 2024/2025 Premier League title triumph.
The Egyptian forward scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists in the league, helping Arne Slot’s side clinch a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title. His combined 46 goal involvements mark the highest ever recorded in a 38-game Premier League season.
Salah secured nearly 90 percent of the total votes cast by football writers — the biggest winning margin of the 21st century. Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk finished second, with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice placing third and fourth respectively.
This latest award places Salah alongside Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the only players to win the FWA honour three times, having previously claimed it in the 2017–2018 and 2021–2022 seasons.
The 32-year-old recently ended transfer speculations by signing a two-year contract extension that keeps him at Anfield until 2027. His decision is seen as a major boost for Liverpool’s ambition to surpass Manchester United as England’s most successful club with a potential 21st league title next season.
In the women’s category, Arsenal striker Alessia Russo emerged as the winner, finishing ahead of last year’s champion Khadija Shaw to become the second Arsenal player to receive the honour.
