Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja, as part of ongoing efforts to mend their political relationship.
Sources confirmed to Daily Post that Fubara met with Wike at the minister’s private residence on Monday, despite speculations surrounding a circulating photograph of the two politicians.
A reliable insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, clarified that the image was an old one, but affirmed that the meeting did take place earlier in the week.
The visit is believed to be part of Fubara’s broader initiative to restore political stability in Rivers State, following months of tension between him and his predecessor.
The disagreement, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, stemmed from disputes over political control in the state and eventually escalated to a split within the State House of Assembly.
In a decisive move to address the crisis, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, suspending Fubara for six months and appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator.
The intervention came amid mounting security concerns, particularly threats from Niger Delta militants to sabotage vital oil infrastructure.
Since his suspension, Fubara has met with President Tinubu in both London and Lagos, while also reaching out to Wike in hopes of resolving their differences.
Following one of these meetings, Wike described Fubara as his political son and encouraged him to engage with other stakeholders to facilitate a comprehensive resolution to the crisis.
However, nearly three months into the suspension, there has been little indication that Fubara has made progress in initiating dialogue with other key political figures in the state.
