Rivers APC Chairman: Fubara Missed Opportunity to Reconcile with Wike

By: Bayero Ade

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for failing to take advantage of the festive season to resolve his differences with former Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to Politics Nigeria,
In an interview on Arise Television, Okocha expressed concern that the lingering rift between Fubara and Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, might continue unresolved, noting that a simple gesture of goodwill could have made a difference.

“I doubt Rivers State will move past this quagmire in 2025. The festive season is a time for reconciliation and goodwill. Sending a message to acknowledge his former boss’s birthday could have eased tensions, but instead, the governor is issuing threats of fire and brimstone,” Okocha remarked.

He also addressed comments made by Wike about former Governor Peter Odili, suggesting they were a reminder for Odili to remain neutral in the conflict. “A father’s role is to stay impartial when his children are in disagreement,” Okocha added.

Okocha dismissed allegations that he had aligned himself with Governor Fubara’s camp, describing the claims as “baseless and hallucinatory.”

The APC chairman called for efforts to de-escalate tensions, urging both leaders to embrace dialogue for the benefit of the state.
