United States sprinter Sha‘Carri Richardson will miss another chance to prove her mettle against Jamaica’s top female 100m sprinters after failing to advance from the preliminary rounds of the event at the US National Trials.
Richardson, who has been heralded by many for looking back to form, finished fifth in 11.31 seconds, with only the top three moving on to the next round. The flamboyant sprinter headed into the event with the 5th fastest time in the world this year, recorded in New York earlier this month.
The typically talkative sprinter did not stop to talk to the media after the event, so it remains unknown whether or not the athlete was carrying an injury, but it appears she failed to recover from a poor start.
This will mark the second time the athlete will miss out on the 100m at a major games. Last year Richardson was listed among the medal contenders after dominating at the US trials but missed out on the Tokyo Olympics after failing a drug test for marijuana. Richardson is, however, still expected to feature in the women’s 200m.
