Residents Seek Assistance as Rainstorm Devastates Properties in Ondo Communities

Residents of Eleyewo, Ilu Abo, Bolorunduro, and surrounding areas in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State are urgently appealing to the state government and intervention agencies for assistance following a rainstorm that wreaked havoc on their properties.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, the storm, which occurred during a heavy downpour on Monday evening, inflicted damages amounting to millions of naira, impacting vehicles, shops, and churches. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

The rain began around 6:30 pm and escalated into a violent storm, accompanied by strong winds that tore off rooftops and caused extensive property damage.

An eyewitness reported, “The roof of an LA Primary School in Ilu Abo suffered significant damage due to the rainstorm. The Redeemed Christian Church in Ilu Abo was particularly hard-hit, as the storm destroyed its iron roofing sheets and ceiling, while the fence of another church, Possibility Church, also collapsed.”

One of the victims, Mr. Lukmon Haruna, described the destruction of his shop and goods, urgently calling on the government for help. “The storm was incredibly severe, and we couldn’t salvage anything during the downpour. Over 20 houses and churches were destroyed. We are pleading with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other philanthropists to assist us,” Haruna implored.

Another victim, Mrs. Funmilayo Fadimu, echoed the call for assistance, revealing that the storm had damaged both her home and shop. “I am appealing to the state and federal governments to support my family. Many items in my shop and house have been ruined. It’s challenging for me to repair the shop and replace the damaged items,” Fadimu stated.
