Reps embark on eight-week annual recess

The House of Representatives has adjourned its legislative activities till 16th September 2024 to observe annual recess.

The Speaker of the House, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, and his Deputy, Hon. Benjamin Kalu on Tuesday commended their colleagues for their support in ensuring that they have unity, harmony and one purpose in the first legislative year.

The House on Tuesday adjourned plenary and proceeded on a two-month annual recess.

The adjournment motion sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon. Julius Ihonbvere, was to enable the lawmakers to proceed on the recess till September 17th September 2024.

While commending their Colleagues for their support to the leadership, the Deputy Speaker urged them to spend time with their constituents, adding that they may reconvene if there’s a need for an emergency session during the annual recess.

Hon. Kalu said: “I would like to thank you on behalf of the Speaker of the Parliament on how you’ve given great support to the leadership of this house, in ensuring that we have unity, harmony and one purpose.

“We appreciate all your support and we don’t take it likely. Enjoy your holidays and spend time with your constituents. If there’s a need to recall you for an emergency please be well disposed to that.”
