Rep Seeks New Technical and Entrepreneurship Colleges in Kebbi

A member of the House of Representatives, Ibrahim Mohammed, has introduced two bills aimed at setting up new educational institutions in Kebbi State to address unemployment and improve practical training for youths.

The lawmaker, who represents Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, is pushing for the creation of the Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Bunza and the National Institute for Technical and Vocational Education in Kalgo.

He explained that the move is part of his plans to give young people the skills they need to thrive in today’s job market.

According to him, both colleges are expected to serve as learning hubs where students can gain hands-on experience in areas such as technology, applied sciences, entrepreneurship, the arts, and vocational fields.

The announcement comes ahead of a public hearing set for Thursday at the House of Representatives, where stakeholders from various sectors are expected to attend.

Mohammed stated that the institutions will be fully funded by the federal government and have their own governing councils.

They will offer diplomas, NCEs, and professional certificates, providing students with a wide range of qualifications that are useful for the job market or for starting their own businesses.

The college in Bunza will focus on entrepreneurship, teacher training, and skill-building for self-employment, while the institute in Kalgo will focus on advanced technical education and research in line with industry needs.

He believes this step will not only benefit Kebbi but also contribute to national development by preparing a workforce that can meet the country’s evolving challenges.
