Presidency Mocks Opposition Coalition, Calls It Alliance of Desperation

The Federal Government has dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition led by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), describing it as an alliance built on frustration rather than a shared vision for Nigeria.

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Thursday, described the coalition as a group of “sore losers” united solely by their opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He argued that the alliance is driven by personal ambitions and grievances rather than a genuine concern for national development.

“These are disgruntled politicians who have come together not because they share a common ideology but because they are desperate to stop Tinubu. Their motivations are not in the interest of Nigerians,” Onanuga stated.

He emphasised that President Tinubu remains focused on delivering on his promises and will not be distracted by political scheming.

According to him, the administration has already made significant progress in addressing national challenges and remains committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.

The coalition was formally unveiled during a press conference at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre, where its leaders criticised Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Atiku Abubakar confirmed at the event that the coalition aims to provide a strong opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
