The Presidency has refuted reports alleging that Vice President Kashim Shettima was recently denied access to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, labeling the story as completely unfounded and deliberately misleading.
In a statement released on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), the Presidency described the claim as a fabricated attempt to stir unnecessary controversy and suggest a non-existent rift between President Bola Tinubu and his deputy.
Nkwocha noted that the narrative, which gained traction through obscure online platforms, was a calculated attempt to sow discord and misinform the public.
He stressed that no such incident involving security personnel obstructing the Vice President occurred.
He called the report “a mischievous invention” meant to tarnish Shettima’s image and divert attention from the administration’s ongoing efforts.
According to him, the relationship between the President and Vice President remains solid and respectful, contrary to the impression being painted by the false publication.
“The synergy and mutual trust between the President and his Vice are stronger than what these rumor-mongers can comprehend,” the statement read.
The Presidency also cited similar previously debunked reports, including false claims about campaign posters, as part of an ongoing trend to spread misinformation.
Nkwocha urged Nigerians to ignore such baseless narratives and advised journalists to always verify facts before going to press. He reaffirmed that Vice President Shettima remains committed to his duties and will not be distracted by rumors or attempts to undermine the administration’s focus.
He concluded by saying that the government would not be sidetracked by falsehoods in its resolve to deliver on its democratic promises.
