Pope Leo XIV, the newly elected leader of the Catholic Church, will preside over his first major Mass on Friday at the Sistine Chapel, according to the Vatican.
Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni confirmed the news, also revealing that the Pope will make his first public appearance from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica for the midday prayer on Sunday.
As previously reported by AFRIPOST, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago was elected as the new Pope on Thursday after four rounds of voting during the conclave at the Sistine Chapel. His election came just 24 hours after the conclave commenced.
Cardinal Prevost, now the first-ever Pope from the United States, previously served in a key role within the Vatican, overseeing the dicastery responsible for coordinating bishops worldwide.
