The police have decided to withdraw the N1.3 billion fraud case against Gbolahan Obanikoro, the son of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, along with four other defendants.
This decision was made known through a Notice of Withdrawal submitted to the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The document, dated February 4, 2025, was signed by Chief Superintendent of Police Justin Enang.
However, no reason was given for dropping the case.
Initially, the defendants were accused of conspiracy, fraud, and obtaining money under false pretenses.
The case involved claims that they fraudulently secured over N1.3 billion from Access Bank (formerly Diamond Bank) between May and September 2013.
The money was allegedly meant for importing brand-new cars from Dubai for resale, but police claimed it was misused.
The defendants, including Balmoral International Limited, M.O.B. Integrated Limited, and DDSS International Company Limited, were supposed to be arraigned on January 26, 2025, but they were absent from court.
The prosecution sought a bench warrant, but one of the defense lawyers opposed it.
The judge then rescheduled the arraignment to February 27, 2025.
Following the police’s withdrawal of the charges, the case may be officially struck out soon.
