Police Warn of Possible Boko Haram Infiltration in Nationwide Protests

The Yobe State Police Command has issued a warning regarding the possible infiltration of upcoming nationwide protests by Boko Haram insurgents.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesperson, revealed on Saturday that there are concerns about foreign mercenaries potentially being involved in efforts to disrupt the protests and inflict harm.

Abdulkarim advised individuals planning to participate in the protests to be cautious, citing intelligence suggesting that the demonstrations might be exploited as a cover for violent and destructive acts.

The statement emphasized that while the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, acknowledges the right to peaceful assembly, he also warns that protests could be ill-timed given the current security situation.

Recent insurgency-related incidents in Gujba LGA, including an explosion involving an improvised explosive device (IED), have heightened these concerns.

The statement concluded by urging protesters to cooperate with the police, follow legal guidelines, and adhere to best practices for peaceful assembly. The police are committed to supporting peaceful expression and maintaining public order.
