Police operatives in Zamfara State have successfully rescued 25 kidnapped victims, including 10 women and 15 children, after engaging bandits in a swift counter-operation on Friday night.
The attackers had invaded Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government around 9:45pm, whisking the victims away in what residents described as a chaotic and terrifying raid marked by heavy gunfire.
However, the bandits’ escape was short-lived.
Moments after residents raised the alarm, joint teams from the Zamfara State Police Command, supported by Community Protection Guards, launched an urgent pursuit that forced the armed men to abandon their captives.
Police sources said the operatives confronted the bandits in a heated exchange before overpowering them and rescuing all 25 victims unharmed, though visibly traumatised.
The survivors were immediately taken to Sabongari Damba for profiling and medical checks before being reunited with their families.
Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, praised the officers for what he described as an act of “professional gallantry,” assuring that the Command remains committed to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements in the state.
Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the operation in a statement issued on Saturday.
