Police launch manhunt for armed kidnappers in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has begun a full-scale manhunt for the armed men responsible for the abduction of a yet-to-be-identified individual in Awka, the state capital.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, saw three armed suspects abducting a resident near his home.

The attackers, operating in a stainless-colored Toyota Highlander with no license plates, reportedly shot indiscriminately before forcefully taking the victim away.

A disturbing video of the incident, now widely circulated on social media, captures the moment the gunmen carried out the abduction in broad daylight.

The footage shows the assailants firing shots into the air before dragging the victim into their vehicle and speeding off.

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed in a statement on Saturday that the Command has obtained the viral footage and has launched rescue operations aimed at securing the victim’s release and apprehending the suspects.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has commended the individual who recorded the video, noting that the footage has become a vital tool in the ongoing investigation.

“The Command is leveraging the viral video for intelligence gathering. It is assisting in our efforts to track down the criminals and ensure the victim is rescued alive,” Ikenga stated.

He added that the bravery displayed by the citizen who filmed the abduction is a powerful example of community collaboration in the fight against crime.

“The Commissioner of Police appreciates this act of courage. It reflects the positive impact of community involvement in supporting law enforcement,” he added.
