Police Investigate Death of Inspector in Rivers

Authorities in Rivers State have launched an investigation following the reported death of a police inspector, Maxwell Zubu, who allegedly took his own life.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday at Eagle Island in Port Harcourt. Zubu was said to be attached as a security aide to a former chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

As of the time of this report, specific details about what led to the incident remain unclear. However, the case has been documented at the Eagle Island police outpost, which operates under the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2 Diobu.

A police officer familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named, confirmed that personnel from the Azikiwe Division visited the scene as part of the initial inquiry.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident but declined to give in-depth information.

She explained that an investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the inspector’s death.

“We are aware of the incident and have begun a thorough investigation. Details will be made public once the investigation is concluded,” she said.

The matter has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for a more in-depth probe.
