Police Inspector, Civilian Killed in Benue Attack

A police inspector and a civilian have lost their lives in an attack by suspected herders on Ipelle village in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, claimed the life of Inspector Daniel Omanyebu, who was attached to the Ipelle Police Outpost under the Agatu Division.

Security sources disclosed to counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, that the assault prompted the deployment of multiple tactical police units, including Operation Zenda, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), and divisional patrol teams, to restore order in the community.

The Area Commander for Otukpo has reportedly relocated to Agatu to coordinate and oversee the intensified security operations in the affected area.

According to police authorities, the body of the slain inspector has been recovered and deposited at the mortuary. The Benue State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case, with efforts ongoing to track and apprehend the perpetrators.

The attack adds to the growing list of violent incidents in Agatu, a region that has suffered recurrent clashes between herders and farming communities over the years.
