The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four residents from the Akpoha Autonomous Community in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the victims were kidnapped while working on their farms on Wednesday, July 24, by unknown assailants whose identities remain undisclosed.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, in a statement on Thursday, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Afikpo Division had verified the incident and that efforts are underway to secure the release of the abducted individuals.
“When I contacted the DPO to confirm the information, he stated that officers had visited the scene to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Ukandu said.
He added that the police, in collaboration with local authorities and traditional rulers, have launched an investigation and intensified search operations in a bid to uncover the motive behind the abduction and ensure the safe return of the victims.
“The division has commenced investigation and search for the rescue of the victims by collaborating with the community leaders and traditional rulers to unravel the reason behind the abduction,” he added.
The command assured the public that further details would be made available as investigations progress.
