Police Confirm Abduction of 12 Female Farmers in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted 12 females in the Mussa district of Askira-Uba Local Government Area in Borno State.

Our correspondent gathered that the women were taken while returning from their farmlands around 5 PM on Saturday.

Confirming the incident to PUNCH Online in a telephone interview on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, stated that the command has launched an investigation into the matter.

“There was an abduction yesterday in Askira-Uba. Twelve females were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists as they were returning from the farm,” he said.

The PPRO called for calm, emphasizing that security efforts are currently underway. “The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that efforts are underway,” he assured, adding that updates will be made public once available.

Residents in the area expressed concern over the incident, urging authorities to expedite action toward securing the victims’ release.

A resident who wished to remain anonymous told PUNCH Online, “We learned about the abduction around 5 PM yesterday when the relatives could not determine their whereabouts. As a community, we have notified our elected representatives, traditional leaders, and security agencies.”

This incident follows a troubling rise in abductions across the country, with states including Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger still having some school students held by bandits.
