The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended two men for the alleged murder of a man named Umaru, whom they accused of witchcraft.
The suspects, 35-year-old Adamu Alhaji Bamu and 32-year-old Manu Alhaji Bamu, are both residents of Kila village in Toungo local government area.
State police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrests and stated that both suspects have confessed to the crime.
According to Adamu, the deceased was “not born a witch but was inducted into it after losing all his cattle.” He alleged that Umaru had expressed intentions to acquire witchcraft to kill his father and inherit his cattle.
Adamu further claimed that after failing to kill his father, Umaru began bewitching Adamu’s children, resulting in the deaths of his daughter Hurera and another child, Mumuni. In retaliation, Adamu admitted to killing Umaru, expressing no remorse for his actions.
He recounted that he struck Umaru four times with a machete, while his brothers beat Umaru with sticks, ultimately causing his death.
