The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), over the alleged drugging and rape of a 20-year-old female undergraduate.
Police spokesperson, Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed on Tuesday that the suspects — identified as 19-year-old Queen Sodo and a male accomplice — lured the victim to Sodo’s residence before administering a sedative-laced drink on her.
According to the police, the victim, who had been friends with Sodo since their secondary school days, visited the suspect’s off-campus apartment believing it was a safe environment. She reportedly became unconscious shortly after taking the drink offered to her.
Ayanlade said a vigilant neighbour raised the alarm after hearing unusual noises. Upon forcing entry, the neighbour discovered the victim lying unconscious beside the male suspect.
The victim was immediately rushed for urgent medical attention and later referred to a specialist hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Sodo left the room after the victim became incapacitated and later returned with the male accomplice, who allegedly assaulted the unconscious student while Sodo remained nearby.
Both suspects have confessed to their involvement, the police said, and key evidence — including the contaminated beverage — has been recovered. The items have also been verified by the victim and the suspects during interrogation.
The duo remains in police custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk of the Ondo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Ayanlade assured that the case would be handled with full transparency, stressing that all individuals involved, regardless of personal ties, would face the law.
He also urged parents and guardians to counsel their children on maintaining vigilance in personal relationships, noting that even long-standing friendships could be exploited for criminal activities.
