Residents of Imo, Jigawa, and Sokoto states paid more for petrol in April 2025 than those in other parts of Nigeria, according to a new report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The report revealed that Imo recorded the highest average price of N1,588.50 per litre, followed by Jigawa at N1,567.84 and Sokoto at N1,550.00.
The data shows a change from the situation in March 2025, when Jigawa, Kaduna, and Cross River had the highest prices, with Jigawa leading at N1,700, Kaduna at N1,650, and Cross River at N1,563.86.
The NBS report, focused on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly called petrol, also showed that Yobe, Kwara, and Osun had the lowest prices in April.
Yobe paid N970.00 per litre, Kwara N1,014.85, and Osun N1,042.49.
The South East region recorded the highest average price among zones with N1,341.71, while the South West had the lowest average of N1,138.64.
Despite some states recording high prices, the overall national average dropped slightly.
In April 2025, the average price was N1,239.33, a small decrease from March’s average of N1,261.65. However, when compared with April 2024, the cost has risen sharply.
Last year, Nigerians paid N701.24 per litre, showing a price jump of over 76 percent in just one year.
