The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has alleged that Felix Morka, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), issued a threat against his life.
According to Politics Nigeria, Obi’s concerns stem from Morka’s remarks during an interview on Arise TV, where he reportedly said, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and has it coming to him whatever he gets.” Obi believes the statement is a direct threat to him, his family, and his close associates.
This follows Obi’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its handling of Nigeria’s economic and security crises. Speaking at a press conference titled “Nigeria Needs Selfless and Exemplary Leadership,” Obi called for decisive actions to address the challenges facing Nigerians, whom he said are losing hope.
Reacting to the allegations, Morka dismissed Obi’s claims as “ridiculous” and accused him of being deceptive. He argued that Obi had “crossed the line” and advised him to leave his ongoing tribunal case in the hands of his lawyers.
Obi addressed the issue further on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed his concerns:
“Have I really crossed the line? My New Year message has now resulted in threats against my life, my family, and those around me. Felix Morka has accused me of ‘crossing the line’ and warned of consequences. I urge everyone to watch my New Year message and point out where I may have erred.”
Obi reiterated his commitment to speaking the truth, even in the face of potential dangers, warning of an increasing trend toward authoritarianism in the country.
“We are becoming an increasingly repressive regime where freedom of expression is under threat. However, I will not be silenced in my effort to address the challenges we face as a nation,” he said.
He concluded by calling for a freer society and praying for a better Nigeria for future generations.
