PDP to Appeal Court Verdict on Edo Governorship Primary

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the primary election that declared Asue Ighodalo as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate on February 22.

The court ruled that 378 delegates, excluded unlawfully by the PDP, were crucial to the process.

In response, the PDP’s National Campaign Council for the Edo State Election downplayed the verdict as a minor setback.

Chairman of the council and Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, addressed the issue during an inaugural meeting with the PDP National Executive Committee in Abuja on Saturday.

He assured members of the party’s resilience, citing confidence in their candidacy and praising Governor Godwin Obaseki’s accomplishments.

“We see this as a temporary setback. God will guide us through.

This ruling won’t hold in the court of law, especially as we appeal,” Fintiri asserted.

Adeyemi Ajibade, PDP National Legal Adviser, echoed Fintiri’s sentiments, affirming that the court ruling does not invalidate their candidate’s position.

He highlighted the party’s ongoing legal battles, expressing optimism about their upcoming appeal.

Meanwhile, Asue Ighodalo acknowledged the upcoming election’s challenges but remained hopeful about the PDP’s prospects.

He emphasized the readiness of himself and his running mate to face the hurdles ahead.

“This election will not be easy; distractions abound. However, with our committed leaders and supporters, I am confident in our victory,” Ighodalo affirmed.

As the legal battles continue, the PDP remains steadfast in its pursuit of victory in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
