PDP Senator, Ned Nwoko Set to Join APC

By: Bayero Ade

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, is reportedly preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Politics Nigeria, this move, if confirmed, would solidify the APC’s dominance in Delta State, as the party already holds the Delta Central and Delta South senatorial seats, won during the 2023 general elections.

Sources suggest that Nwoko’s decision stems from a strained relationship with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa. Allegations indicate that Nwoko and his constituency have faced marginalization, with Governor Oborevwori prioritizing the interests of his political mentor, Okowa.

Okowa, who served as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in their unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2023, is rumored to be eyeing the Delta North senatorial seat for the 2027 elections. This potential rivalry may have further influenced Nwoko’s decision to align with the ruling APC.

It is also worth noting that Okowa was arrested in November 2024 over allegations of mismanaging N1.3 trillion in derivation funds between 2015 and 2023. Although he was later released, his travel documents remain confiscated as investigations continue.

Nwoko’s defection, if finalized, could significantly reshape the political landscape in Delta State.
